i want to know which toaru is first, toaru kagaku no railgun or toaru majutsu no index. thank you for any help given.

To aru majutsu no index is the main series. Railgun is the spin-off.

Technically they're separate series, but chronologically it would be something like this:
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun Toaru Kagaku no Railgun OVA Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S Toaru Majutsu no Index Toaru Majutsu no Index II And seriously, Touma is the most annoying character of the series and he's unfortunately the main... -.-' So railgun is a bit better because there's far less of him...
